Amending Audio speech files
Greetings all
This is part of a general search for assistance.
My aim is to re-voice some of the traffic control speech we often hear when flying past bases. Such as for example, " This is Erinmore base to unknown Heavy Squadron, please state your designation and destination".
I have gone through every audio file (wav) in the data section of the game files but can find no trace of these files anywhere. Most of the audio files that are visible are either the dialogue that takes place in the original game walk through, background music, or sound effects.
As many of The Threat Bases have changed names I think it would be better to re-voice these files if possible rather than disable it.
So if anyone has any idea where such files are located or what file extension they have then please shout about it.
There are a lot of UTF files in the audio section but to me UTF was something that AOL (aaarrrrggghhh) used.
Regards
Gunner

Re: Amending Audio speech files
I just checked and it seems that UTF files are audio files, only the extension has changed. try to rename the file <name>.utf to <name>.mp3, it works ! (extension to check: *.wav or *.mp3)
All what I could find about audio in Freelancer is here:
**TUTORIAL** - EVERYTHING about Audio in Freelancer
And here:

Many Many thanks, That's just where they are hiding. I just hope that once I convert them and re-voice I can turn them back but I do not see why not. I will do a few test first and I think we have a lot to re-voice. Such as Molly convoys in Bret space heading for the Dublin System. Lets see how many accents I can create.

Re: Amending Audio speech files
Just to let you all know the progress on this subject. The UTF files are in fact MPEG Layer 3 files and I am sure what I am looking for is in one of these but here is the drawback. One file contains many many various speech dialogues which could cover many various events. So working out the algorithm that plucks out of the middle of the file that which is required could be fun!!!
While some UTF files can be renamed MP3, MP3 players may not run them.

Re: Amending Audio speech files
Further progress to seeking out the audio files. I spent all last night converting every audio file in the audio directory and playing through. The vast majority is for the Start Game sequence while the rest are only sound effects. The RT background audio files are not there so I am guessing they may be part of a dll file somewhere else. They are not in the audio file directory. (Unless I fell asleep listening to them but I don't think so)

Re: Amending Audio speech files
You still need help with this? Dont know if you've heard of a guy called Hidamari perhaps?
He's made a name for himself in the modding community by specialising in FL Audio mods. He's done some really awesome stuff. With your permission I can approach him and ask for assistance with what you need done.

Re: Amending Audio speech files
Hello Waves
Yes Yes Yes please. I found all the audio files and spent many hours listening them all. But what taxed by brain was that all the various voices are contained in a continuous stream separated by perhaps 2 or 3 seconds. What I failed to achieve was to figure out how the routines plucked the right piece of speech out of the middle of a stream of voices.
Any help will be gratefully received.
